One of the skills required of librarians today is project leadership. I'm weak in this area, so here's a proposal: is there a project that we could take on? As a group?

It might be something we do entirely online (e.g. creating pathfinders such as this one from SJCPL), or offline. Or start online and work up to offline.

Is anyone interested in working together on something? Do you belong to organizations that could use our help on a project--something they could hand over to us?

I've been thinking about this for a while. On Monday I heard a story on NPR about the shortfalls in college financial aid preventing highly qualified students from attending the school of their choice. One student was only $5,000 short, but her mother couldn't get a federal loan, and the money saved for college had gone to medical expenses. The student had been accepted into a prestigious pre-med program but ended up going to community college.

It made me want to jump up and start a fundraiser for kids in that position. Here's a link to the story:

Student Loan Crisis Hits Pa. Students

Marlo Johnson and Emmanuel Garcia are top students, who would be the first in their families to go to college. Their frantic search for money to pay for tuition has become an all-too common ordeal for many poor and middle-class students and their families.

Anyway, project, anyone?

Would you like to work on a project? Projects, maybe, if we all want to be the leader! Got any availability? Got any pet causes? Sound off!
