Project, anyone?

Would you like to work on a project? Projects, maybe, if we all want to be the leader! Got any availability? Got any pet causes? Sound off! Do you find this valuable?

Great idea, I'd love to help out on a project, and my availability is flexible.

I want to add that as a sub, there isn't a whole lot of opportunity for projects on the job. You're expected to staff the reference desk and don't get off desk time to work on projects. Sometimes, during a slow period, I'll ask a librarian or a staff member if there is a project I can help out with. If there is something, its usually something really short and minor and not the kind of thing I could put on a resume. What I'm looking for is something more substantial, something more long term.

I think this wiki is like a project in itself and its certainly something that could be mentioned about in a job interview. Your fundraising idea was also great.

Here's another idea:
We could get together and create a podcast or video clip on something library related. Perhaps something like a panel discussion of what its like to be a substitute in a library?

I'd be interested in a podcast or video clip like that. I've also had thoughts of doing a series of e-mail "Web 2.0 in 2 minutes a day" because so many people can't give it much time but are curious.

I used to be a co-host on the KFAI radio program "Mom-bo; a mom show with an attitude" and learned some things about pacing and timing on air.

If we did something about being a sub librarian, I'd like to be in contact with subs from others systems, other states, for a broad pic. And then send it to all the library schools!

Does anyone know the status of volunteering for the MLA convention? I sent an e-mail, haven't heard back, but I just sent it a day or two ago.

It's November 19-21 at the Sheraton Bloomington.
Early Bird Registration (discount) must be mailed or faxed by Sept. 20.

Maybe we can meet there -- although there are usually tempting sub hours available during conferences.

I have volunteered frequently in the past. There are always opportunities to help with the silent auction. Jeanne Whetstone is a great resource I will ask her who is coordinating. Do you find this valuable?

I have a potential idea for a project. ALA-APA is looking for writers for Library Worklife: HR E-News for Today's Leaders, a monthly electronic publication that goes to thousands of ALA member libraries and subscribers.

ALA-APA continues to inform readers about issues—career advancement, certification, human resources practice, pay equity, recruitment, research, work/life balance—that concern all library workers. One way to ensure that the publication reflects your concerns and celebrates your victories is to become a featured author. Articles are 1200 words or less.

I was thinking about submitting an article about subbing in libraries. Anyone want to collaborate with me on this?

I would like to discuss the advantages of subbing and also the unique challenges subs face. Also, how to get started as a sub.

Different library systems handle the subbing differently. Some research may be needed so the article isn't Hennepin County centered or even MELSA centered.

I have added a page under Projects, titled Subbing Article. You can add your thoughts there.

1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?
